I was invited to teach an acrylic painting workshop in Manhattan in 2024 and purchased a supply of birch panels for this endeavour. The purpose of the class was to have non-artists practice free-form expression with acrylic paint. In preparation, I began experimenting with these panels and found them very satisfying as surfaces to paint on. Being quite a departure from the shaped works I had been developing for many decades, I came up with adding beaded fringes to satisfy my urge to go beyond a rigid square shape. With a massive supply of beads from all over the world in my collection, I found it to be another meditation to supplement the works and went on to purchase additional panels for further experimentation.
